Dr. F.C. Okenmuo, the current Head of the Department of Soil Science, has been instrumental in leading the department toward excellence since his appointment. His innovative vision and commitment to sustainable land management have driven significant advancements in research and academic programming.

Under his leadership, the department continues to pioneer innovative solutions in soil conservation, equipping students with the skills necessary to meet the evolving challenges of agricultural productivity and environmental stewardship.

Established on December 2, 2009, the Department of Soil Science at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University has swiftly become a leading institution in agricultural education and research. As a hub of innovation, the department is committed to tackling key challenges in soil management, agricultural productivity, and environmental conservation. Through a blend of academic rigor and hands-on training, it equips students with the knowledge and skills necessary to address the complexities of sustainable agriculture. Admission Requirements and Procedures

Undergraduate Admission:
  • UTME Requirements: Candidates must have credit passes in five O’ level subjects, including English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology/Agricultural Science, and one additional subject.
  • Direct Entry: Candidates with a National Diploma, HSC, or NCE (with a minimum of lower credit plus five O’ level credits) are eligible for admission into the 200 level.
  • Transfer: Students from recognized universities may transfer under the conditions stipulated by COOU.
Postgraduate Admission:
  • Requirements: A minimum CGPA of 3.5 (for Ph.D.) or equivalent qualifications for M.Sc. and PGD programmes in relevant fields.
Registration Process for New Students:

New students must follow a step-by-step registration process, including presenting certificates for clearance, paying the necessary fees, and submitting required documents to the Faculty Officer.
